    Hello Doctor,

I have a Minor Disc Bulge at T7 T8 and presently my symptoms are only getting underarm pain occasionally and I have minor disc bulges from C3 to C6 causing pain in the shoulder. My left scapula rubs with Rib Cage and I feel weak on Left Scapula area. Could you please advised are these all the symptoms of T7-T8.
    Thank you very much.

    Regards

T7-8 disc bulges (very small herniation) will possibly (but unlikely) cause irritation to the T7 nerve root. This will cause pain and paresthesias (pins and needles) to radiate in a band down only one side of the chest (right or left) above the abdomen (the area in the lower ribs). This nerve will not cause symptoms into the shoulder and not cause shoulder weakness.

Weakness of the shoulder can be caused by a pinched nerve in the neck or a shoulder problem (rotator cuff tear). Commonly, neck problems will radiate into the top of the shoulder blade region and in between the shoulder blades.

    Dr. Corenman,

Thank you very much for your reply. It has cleared my myths about my situation. One question about the same. My MRI report say Marginal Osteophytes in Cervial and Thoracic Spine area. Will Osteophytes formation means OsteoArthrities as I am only 38yrs Old and very active life style. But the only issue I had before my bulges was high fever of 105 F and Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Calcium were very low. If it Osteoarthrities will it progress quickly.
    Thank you very much.

Marginal osteophytes can occur from two difference sources, degeneration and inherent disorders such as DISH (diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis) or ankylosing spondylitis. 38 is a little young for multilevel significant degenerative diseases but not rare. Osteoarthritis can be non-symptomatic or can cause symptoms depending upon the particular individual. Don’t worry about this too much and live your life. Maybe try to reduce impact (try to become a cyclist if you are currently a runner) but otherwise don’t concern yourself too much with these changes if not symptomatic.
