    Hi Dr.Corenman,

I’m suffering from 2 disc herniation’s at L4-L5 and L5-S1 , tried Yoga chiropractor , Epidural steroid shot which didn’t help so I decided to go with Microdiscectomy and Laminectomy (what my doctor recommended).
I had a relief for maybe a day or two and then the pain in my leg started again. 2 weeks after my doctor put me on oral steroids which helped but pain returned after I finished the pack. My doctor ordered an Mri 3 weeks after surgery and there was no re-herniation only scar tissue that may compress the travelling L5 nerve. I’m now 8 weeks after and still in pain , some days are better some day are worse, I asked from my doctor (I live in Denver) to prescribe an Epidural steroid shot but his answer was wait 3 months. I really dont know why am I still in pain if there is no herniation, I’m frustrated and don’t know really what to do. Also went to a second opinion and they told me as well that there is no reherniation and I should have the Epidural shot. Why am I still in pain 8 weeks after surgery? Pain is in my leg, thigh , knees.

Thank you for your help ,

    Mor

Is your pain better or worse with standing or walking? Is the pain the same as before or different? Is the intensity the same as before surgery or less (or more)? If you don’t have another herniation, you still might have foraminal or lateral recess stenosis. How is the disc height on your X-ray?

    Hi Dr. Corenman,

The pain is better with walking , pain is the same areas as before the surgery , the intensity changes during the day sometimes better sometimes worse…my doctor told me that I don’t have stenosis and the stenosis that I had was as a result of the disc that compressed the nerve…I have degenerative discs at L4-L5 both are them mild.
Also do you have a clinic in Denver?

Sorry but I am only seeing patients in Vail. If your doc did not note recurrent herniation or stenosis, you could have chronic radiculopathy of possibly a fragment hiding that MRI does not pick up (rare as I have seen only 3 cases in 30 years but they do exist). If your pain has not improved, ask for the copy of the radiologist report to see what this individual has to say. Also, an epidural steroid injection would be my next step.
