In 1998 I was in a vehicle accident, I broke my left femur, fractured my right mtp joint. The femur was set internally rotated by 39 degrees and was shortened by 3cm. My gait is altered, and I have a significant limp. I also walk on the outside of my right foot. I had my femur repaired in 2012 to correct the alignment in hopes of relieving back pain. I have a disk impeding on my nerve and sitting has become painful. Is the back pain because of the altered gate? I’m 41 years old and an MRI showed the disk and degenerative spinal changes.

The altered gait can load the spine asymmetrically and prematurely cause wear. The disc can however be a genetic, wear and tear type of injury too. It depends upon how the disc has worn out.
