I am trying to figure out my next step for my 12 year old daughter. She is suffering from constant neck pain and headaches along with constant nausea. Let me give you a bit of history.
In 2010, around 7 years old, she began complaining of neck pain and headache. Pediatrician said she was having muscle spasm in neck. He sent her to Pediatric Orthopedics, Neurology, and Physical Therapy. They did x-rays, MRI, and blood work. everything was said to be normal with small amount of inflammation showing in bloodwork. Results of MRI concluded straightening of cervical spine due to muscle spasms. Noone was able to determine why she was having these. Middle part of 2013, they stopped!! She had virtually no pain, except occasional headache until end of August 2015. She has now been in constant pain since. Once again she has had MRI and bloodwork with the same results. Straightening of cervical spine due to muscle spasms and slight inflammation in blood work. Once again noone seems to have any answers. They have given her flexeril, which helps her to ease off to sleep but when she awakens the pain is there. She complains of constant nausea, neck pain and headache. Her eyesight has decreased her most recent eye test gave her 20/60 vision and she has appointment with Opthamologist this week. Neurologist prescribed Gabapentin at 600 mg per day but it has done nothing. I am at a loss of what to do next or who to try and see. Noone seems to have any answers. Are there other tests I could ask for that may show something or a different specialists to see?? I am happy to answer any questions and appreciate any advice you might could offer. Thanks for reading.
Headaches and nausea could be related to facet syndrome in the cervical spine. This would have no bearing on eyesight.
You can try gentile chiropractic or acupuncture. If nothing else works, facet blocks at C2-3 and C3-4 can be considered. Good relief (see pain diary) might help long term and if not, rhizotomy (see website) can be considered.
