Can herniated disk be treated with chiropractic treatment? Is it possible to get rid of the problem completely with only chiropractic or massage therapy or acupuncture, I mean to say can a visit to a chiropractor treat the problem completely?

Herniated discs can be treated with chiropractic care but this treatment is probably not the most efficacious therapy and can occasionally increase the size of the herniation. If the nerve root is not terribly inflamed and there is not motor weakness present, gentile manipulation can yield some pain relief. This however would not be my first line of treatment selected.

I have read the entire thread and I would wish to thank Dr. Corenman for such good advice. Reading your posts help us increase our knowledge and throws some light on the minute possibilities in any treatment. Thank you for doing this noble deed of helping people with your valuable time and advice. Also would like to add that Chiropractic care can help herniated disc. It is not a sure shot treatment but can relieve a lot of trouble if done correctly. It is necessary to study the nuances of the case effectively before starting any treatment for the same.

    when i was 30, i was diagnosed with a herniated disc(L4-5 i believe)
and surgery was recommended. but they said since i was borderline too young, they will try alternate pain relief.. i was sent to a chiropractor, who thought he can cure any back problem…
He put me on a flat table , that bends the body up, and down(like the letters “A and V”)this is the best way i can describe how the table moved..anyway, this movement caused severe lightning stikes down my left leg,..i told him to stop, but he insisted this will cure my back pain.
After another few minutes of agonizing pain, i demanded him to get me off this torture device, and i left him with a few choice words about his practice.

You were on a flexion/distraction table. This table, in the right hands can help to relieve pain in some cases of herniated disc/nerve pain. If used incorrectly however (as you found out) this treatment can cause increased nerve pain. This chiropractor you visited did not understand the biomechanics of the disc herniation and caused you more pain. This is not the case with all chiropractors but unfortunately is more common than I would like.
