I have a synovial cyst (Intraneural Ganglion Cyst) at my L5-S1 nerve root, that is pressing on the nerve and causing horrible sciatic pain on my right side. The neurosurgeon that is treating me says the type and location of my cyst is rare and he is hesitant to operate, due to the potential risks involved.

Have you operated on this type of cyst in this area?

Synovial cysts also known as ganglion cysts are a common cause of lumbar nerve root compression. I have personally operated on probably 100 ganglion cysts so this is a relatively common operation. If your surgeon is uncomfortable with this operation, I would advise finding someone who has experience with this disorder.
