    Dr. Corenman,
First, I wrote to you back in May of this year due to some spasms that I was having in the front of my neck and face. You quickly let me know it was probably a misaligned jaw and were right on target. A quick trip to the oral surgeon and realignment (with steroid shot)and this ongoing issue was resolved. Thank you !

I am hoping you can once again lead me in the right direction. I have stenosis mild to moderate from c1-c7, arthritis in the thoracic area of my spine and l1-s1 has a variety of issues; bulging disc l3,l4,l5, stenosis, arthritis and bone spurs. It’s a hot mess. I have opted for lumbar injections and pain management over the years and have managed overall okay. I am on zanaflex 4mg every 6 hours prn and oxycodone every 4-6 hours prn for pain.

I am use to lower back spasms, even leg cramps due to the sciatic nerve, but more recently I have had an increase in spasms that extend from my midback (thoracic region) to the ribs. This will cause the whole flank area to knot up and it takes about 10-30 minutes depending on the severity to get it to release. When it starts I stretch the area out and apply ice as heat doesn’t work as well. I have also noticed that it can be triggered by turning incorrectly or if I’m tired, hot or overly stressed. Typically it is just on one side (at a time) but recently I have had it bilaterally which is a little harder to get to calm down (while stretching one side I increase the spasm on the other side or trigger one). I haven’t found the zanaflex to prevent this type of spasm so I’m at a loss as what I can do to avoid it. I run a nonprofit so I am on the move a lot and stress is just a part of the job.

Any thoughts? I am hoping you can tell me this is as easy to fix as my misaligned jaw. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing back from you.
