Thanks

Dr Corenman,
What is the difference between, Enhancing granulation tissue encases the right S1 nerve root as it traverses the lateral recess and enhancing granulation tissue encircling L5 nerve root, no compression of L5 nerve root.
My, MRI report states circling of the L5 nerve root, they both sound the same.
Thank you Dr
Abutment or effacement of a nerve root is the presence of very mild compression of the root. It would be the difference between a small dog leaning against your leg vs an elephant leaning on you (indicating significant compression).
Granulation tissue is healing tissue which can melt away or turn into scar tissue. Enhancing means the tissue “lights up” with gadolinium injected during a contrast MRI.
