Hello, I had an acdf of c6-c7 june 6th of 2017. Cadaver bone was used to replace the damaged disc and fixation hardware was placed in front. Over the last few weeks I noticed progressive pain, and the same symptoms I hade before the surgery left arm pain, left hand numbness tingling etc… I became worried enough to go get x rays at my local irgent care. The x rays show that I have a non union and also the plate had fractured. I immediately went and saw my nuerosurgeon and he said I would require a revision surgery to correct these issues. I suffer from osteoporosis and DDD throughout my spine… My question is because of the osteoporosis what type of revision surgery will work best for me? I am a 32 year old male. Thank you!

First, have you determined why you have osteoporosis? A 32 year old man should not have osteoporosis and you need a workup to determine why.

I would revise your pseudoarthrosis with an anterior redo with your own iliac crest graft. This would give the best chance for decompression and fusion. Some surgeons would also consider a posterior fusion along with the ACDF but I think that would be more surgery than you need.

Thank you for the reply! All I have been told thus far about the osteoporosis is that I have a severe vitamin D deficiency and was put on 50,000 unit vitamin D. I will try to find out more. I was hoping for another anterior approach because all I have heard are horror stories about posterior approaches.

Seems like celiac disease may be a contributing factor.

Celiac disease is associated with malabsorption syndrome. Malabsorption will reduce many nutrients available to your body.
