Thank you again!
So then I would have to have separate facet blocks in all segments of the cervical spine in order to diagnose the pain ?
Why do some surgeons advise against injection in the cervical area ?
I also wanted to mention that I have a labral tear in my left shoulder (same side as neck pain) where sealt belt crossed over my chest.
Could the labral tear cause/create the pain I am having in my left trap and left side of my neck ?
Thank you again!
Regarding facet blocks, I don’t try to be too specific in prescribing which facets to inject as the injections are expensive and if one additional level has rhizolysis (sensory nerve disruption) that possibly did not need it, this is really a non-issue.
This is different than with surgery. If I was looking for a surgical solution, the blocks would be individual and highly specific.
Labral tears can radiate pain down the arm and into the neck. This disorder has to be ruled out in any work-up to determine the pain generator. A good history and physical examination will identify this disorder.
