Today is 3 weeks since I had L5-s1 microdisectomy surgery. Prior to my surgery I was in such debilitating pain for about 3 months in my left leg. I barely slept. After getting a lumbar spine Mri done it showed i had a disc fragment compressing my sciatic nerve – I have not felt that bad pain since my surgery but I am still feeling burning and pain in my left leg and now I also have tingling and pulling feeling in my calf muscle in my right leg which I never had before (it was only my left leg) – is this normal? Is all of this part of the healing process after this type of surgery? Thanks
It is not unusual to have some residual symptoms in the involved leg for up to 3 months after the decompression surgery. It is unusual to have symptoms in the formally normal leg. I assume your neurological findings (numbness and weakness) have not increased since surgery. Ask your surgeon if taking an oral steroid could be helpful to reduce symptoms.

I do not have weakness in either leg but I still do have numbness in my left leg which has not gotten any better even after the surgery. I never had any sciatica pain in my right leg but I do now. It started about a week after my surgery.
