I wrote to you last October following my second MRI, this time of the cervical and thoracic spine. The results of the second were:

C5/C6 there is a broad based central disc/osteophytic bar causing moderate narrowing of the exit foramen.
The rest of the cervical discs are desiccated but there are no protrusions.
T3/T4 There is a left paracentral disc/osteophytic bar causing mild narrowing of the left exit foramen. There is no central or foraminal compression.
    T4/T5 There is congenital fusion
    T5/T6 Moderate facet joint osteoarthritis
T7/T8 Small central disc protrusion but no central or foraminal compression.
The rest of the discs are desiccated but there are no disc protrusions.
    Early facet joint osteoarthritis
    Normal cranio/cervical junction. Normal cord.
    Multiple thyroid cysts
    No veterbral collapse
Mild endplate irregularity in the thoracic spine but no MR evidence of Scheurmanns Disease.

Both MRI’s were down privately through the biggest private hospital here in the UK called the Nuffield. Both were down by different radiographers and read by different consultants. The first MRI of lumbar picked up tarlov cyst at S2, osteoarthritis and the presence of Schuermanns Disease in the lumbar region.

I saw my consultant in September 2013 and he said that none of the findings are anything to worry about and I should carry on riding horses and running marathons.

Having seen the MRI of my neck I am reluctant to continue riding horses and to date have not been in the saddle. I have limited neck movement and pain is constant, getting worse as the day progresses. Night time I now find it difficult to find any comfortable position for my neck. Whatever pillows I use it feels like I am laying on a brick with pressure from the back of my neck.

I sought a second opinion of the second reading and approached the consultant who carried out the first MRI of my lumbar region. Unfortunately due to both consultants being part of the Nuffield Group i was told no second reading can take place without the consent of the spinal consultant who I paid to read verbatum both reports. This he won’t give.

I am at a loss as to what to do next. I have seen my GP who is totally understanding and cannot see why I cannot get a second opinion.

Would you be willing to look at the second MRI images and report?

Kind regards and a belated Happy New Year.
