Hi Dr. Corenman,
I was wondering if you could quickly analyze these partial shots of an MRI. They’re just image URLs on a popular image site, so no downloads are required.
I have right leg pain with positive straight leg and crossed straight leg tests. I can live fine without medication, the pain is usually mild but sometimes flares up.
Thank you in advance!

You have a disc hernation at L5-S1. The images are incomplete but your symptoms are the key to your situation. I just wrote a thread that applies to you: “When to have surgery” under “treatments” that you can peruse. If you are living with the symptoms and your lifestyle is acceptable, you do not need surgery.

I am going to have an epidural soon, and I hope that will help.
To be honest, I’m not sure if I need surgery. My pain is not bad, and I can walk, run, drive, etc. Its only if I’m sitting for a while and I get up and start walking that the pain is most prevalent. Also, if my leg is attempted to fully straighten, it hurts. It’s about 80-90% leg pain vs. lower back.
My biggest issue is that I walk with a limp. The pain is mild after walking for a few minutes but there’s still the slight limping of the lower leg. Do you have any reccomendation for that?
