    Quick summary:
    -Had a L5S1 MD
    -Went well originally
-After a few months had a bulge that gave me recurrent symptoms
    -Had a 2nd L5S1 MD a year later
-Complete abatement of symptoms after 2 months!
-After 3 months, return of some symptoms. Mostly tightness around incision site and glute pain.

What is most likely happening here? I don’t really have nerve pain and SLR is negative. But I have an immense amount of tightness / annoying pain (3/10) in my glute and on my back in the area where the incision was.

These symptoms are 3 months post 2nd MD. Is it possible the tissue is still inflamed/healing? Or is it possible I have another bulge?

    Thanks!!

“Is it possible the tissue is still inflamed/healing? Or is it possible I have another bulge?” Yes and yes. You might try an oral steroid first to knock back any inflammation and possibly obtain relief. If that doesn’t yield relief, a new MRI with gadolinium would be helpful. If your symptoms are not tolerable and you need further surgical work on L5-S1, a fusion along with a decompression would be advised.

Thanks. Is there a way I can test at home if it is a bulge vs inflamed tissue? Also, generally when does tissue settle down? I’d guess after 3-4 months post op
