My MRI shows I have a L5 S1 disk herniation. I have motor weakness in my right gastroc and numbness in my right foot. It has been 7 months since the herniation event. I am wondering if it makes sense to still do surgery considering the time since the incident. My surgeon indicates a microdisectomy is still the best chance I have to regain strength even though it has been 7 months. Would you concur with this?

You addressed this issue several times in this forum and indicated you were working on a paper addressing recovery of motor weakness. I am curious if you finished the paper and if so how to get a copy???

    Thanks for your input!!

The best chance for recovery is decompression sooner than later. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to my records so that efficacy paper cannot be completed. 7 months is late but it never is too late. I would get a new MRI before considering surgery as these fragments can migrate.
