My cervical mri showed multiple problems. Retrolisthesis of C4, multilevel neural formainal narrowing, cervical spinal degenerative changes and disc bulges at three levels. My pain doctor discussed all this with me but not “the possibility of mass effect on the exiting C5 nerve roots and clinical correlation is recommended “ What does this mean and should it be investigated further?

“Mass effect” is another technical way of describing “nerve root compression”. Other equivalent terms are “stenosis” or even a “pinched nerve”. Compression of the C5 nerve is described here: https://neckandback.com/conditions/symptoms-of-cervical-nerve-injuries/.

Depending upon your symptoms and physical examination, this can be pursued. See: https://neckandback.com/treatments/when-to-have-neck-surgery/
