    Hello Dr. Corenman,

I started having neck pain a few month ago is the right side of the neck from C2 to C7. I have taken Motrin 800mg but the pain has gone worse. When I bend my head down I feel an electricity running down to my feet. I recently did an MRI Cervical without contrast and the results showed a Signal Abnormality in the Spinal Cord at the C2 level. Also showed intervertebral disc space narrowing mid cervical spine C5-C6 and C6-C7 mild generalized disc bulges were seen at C5-C6 and C6-C7 as well.
I would like to find out if this is something it can get better with muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatory meds and heating pads or is there anything else that needs to be done differently.

    Thank you,

You need to have the cause of your cord signal change at C2 investigated. Your symptoms of “When I bend my head down I feel an electricity running down to my feet” is a L’hermittes sign which indicates spinal cord irritation. You might have anything from instability at that level to Chiari’s Syndrome (“https://neckandback.com/conditions/chiari-malformation-type-arnold-chiari-syndrome/”).

Your neck pain might be related to that cord injury zone but commonly, degenerative changes “intervertebral disc space narrowing mid cervical spine C5-C6 and C6-C7” can also cause neck pain.

You need a good spine surgeon to give you a full evaluation to understand what is going on.
