I jumped upsidedown in a shallow pool and I was diagnosed with fractured C1 and subluxated C2. Thank god i didn’t have any numbness or paralysis. only severe neck pain, and limitation of head movements. I underwent C1-2 posterior fixation and fusion about 2 months ago. Now i still have severe muscle pain especially when I set down for more than like 20 minutes without having anything to support my back and when i wake up, i feel severe neck pain too. i was just wondering if this is normal after surgery?!!

It does take about 4-6 months for a C1-2 solid fusion to take place. How were you fixed? Did you have cables and wires (a Brooks fusion) or an instrumented fusion (screws into the lateral masses of C1 and pars screws at C2)?

I will tell you my story….
I’ve had 2 surgeries. The first one didn’t go well because C1 screws were inside the canal. I don’t know how but it happened. No injury t the spinal cord, only CSF leak so they decided to do revision surgery a week later. it’s been almost 3 months now since the second surgery and I still feel pain when I sit for a long time without using a pillow or something to support my head and after i wake up in the morning. I was so sick of taking narcotic painkillers that i decided to stop it without telling the surgeon about it and now I am on Pregabalin 150mg twice a day.
I know this sounds crazy but my life turned into a nightmare because I keep thinking about so many bad things like is it possible for the screws to break and injure the spinal cord? am I going to be paralyzed if this happened? and is it normal to feel pain after all this time? is there any major post-op complications that could happen? I feel like my head is going to explode because of this!
