a road trip of 11 1/2 hours in dec of 2015 started head and neck numbness, tingling and mild pressure. cat scan and xrays have shown nada. saw a spinal spec last nov and went thru 6 weeks of PT, which did not help at all. have not had an mri. i have been tested for temporal arter, which was negative. spec thinks its DDD. have tried muscle relaxers, ibuprofen and tylenol with no relief. wearing glasses during the day seems to annoy the scalp over my ears and around the back of my head and across my forehead with numbness. hot and cold showers of the evening seems to really worsen my condition, i normally have to wait 30 to 45 minutes after the shower for some relief. have changed my pillow and tried yoga, stretching, among other exercises with still no relief. at times right shoulder , arm and hand experience aching, tingling with numbness and at times, pins and needles.

The nerves that originate from the neck do cover the back of the head to the top of the eyes and around the ears. Interestingly, it is rare to have nerve compression cause these symptoms. There are facets (joints in the back of the neck) that can become inflamed and then cause radiation of pain and numbness over the course of the C2 and C3 nerves.
