I am going to have a lumbar fusion of my S1-L4 to correct my spondyloslisthesis. The neurosurgeon is doing a TLIF. I have been able to ride with this condition and would like to know how much this surgery will affect my ability to road bike afterwards.

I have already flipped my stem from a -9% to +9%, a change of 18 degrees. I don’t ride in the drops anyway, so I’m hoping that the change should be adequate.

    Any suggestions?

The surgery should not affect your ability to road bike when healed if everything goes as planned. A shorter stem will also be helpful but wait until the surgeon allows you to get on a spin bike. In the first three months after surgery, you will not be able to determine what stem height and length will be adequate due to swelling and muscle tightness.
