What are your symptoms? How do you know that 80% of the cartilage is worn away?

i have had the same problem when it comes to a neurosurgeon saying there was nothing wrong with me .i also found out threw a m.d. this same neurosurgeon i saw wrote in a report that i had a herniated disc that has ruptured . you might try to get the report that the radiologist did and see if that neurosurgeon did a report he just didn't want you to see get these it might help you in the long run

chronic shoulder mid upper spine area is where the scoliosis is,
i had xrays done and 3 doc looked at them. i was told they disintegrated due to stress. apparently the top bone that goes into my head is supposed to have a curve. mine is straight. i always hear clicks and pops from my chest shoulders and neck. my shoulders are not aligned when i stand up. one is higher. im constantly shaking my head until i hear a click from one of the 3 c's
ive been on every kind of pain med and muscle relaxer.
im a certified yoga teacher and this interferes w practice.

thx 4 ur help

Symptoms generated by worn joints (arthrosis) of C1-2 would be headaches, base of the skull pain, base of the skull grinding and clicking noises and some occasional radiation down to the mid neck.

If you have scoliosis, it would be expected that your shoulders would not "be even" in the mirror. The shoulders align with the ribs and if the ribs are assymetrical (as in the case with scoliosis), the shoulders would not be level.

It very well could be that you have arthrosis of the upper cervical vertebra but your symptoms could more likely be generated from the lower cervical vertebra. This might be a case for diagnostic facet blocks (see website).
