Chronic pain management is a problem, especially today where new regulations make it very difficult to use narcotics to manage these patients. The simple way to understand if the pain pump needs removal is to stop it for 3-4 days. If the pain is still manageable without the pump, I would endorse removal.

The world is still waiting for a medication that can control chronic pain without all the side effects that narcotics are known for. There are other medications that can help. Check out the “medications” section of this website to understand what else is available.
